Happy Saturday to my fellow bloggers and readers!
Today I am happy to be hosting a guest blogger on Bundles of Blossoms. Her name is Margaret and her blog is called
I'll tell ya what.....
You can follow her right HERE
She's from Louisiana and always has so much to say.
So for todays blog she'll be giving you an update on my prior post yesterday about Swamp People. She was my "friend" that stood in line, in the awful heat and couldn't get Troy Landry's autograph, but was able to get in the building to snap some awesome pics!
Here ya go, Margaret, take it away my friend!
In Pursuit of the Swamp People
I don't normally just jump on the latest thing just because everyone else is doing it or watching it. I especially loathe most reality shows. If it's not really something I need or somehow applies to me, then what's the big deal? A few months ago I noticed everyone talking about these guys from the southern part of Louisiana who were catching alligators and have their own show on The History Channel On Thursday nights FACEBOOK comments from my friends were all about these gator hunters. Everyone was saying, "Choot 'em Elizabeth!" I have a very good friend in central Illinois who is nuts about them. I mean, if these guys even caught the attention of my cosmopolitan-country designer friend from a small town in the mid-west, then there must really be something to it. This girl wouldn't go near mud if her classiest of earrings were danger of sinking forever into the abyss. Now she wants to "choot" a gator! I encourage you to check Nikki out by clicking HERE. Let her tell you in her own words what a fanatic she really is. Yes, she blogged about it.
So, being a Louisiana girl, my interest was sparked. I had to know what the fuss was all about. I went online to check it out and I am happy to say that I am current on all of the episodes of the season. I have watched EVERY video about the Swamp People that the History Channel online has to offer. I want more! I love it! Yea, they got me.
When I found out Troy Landry and his son Jacob were going to be at a sporting goods store nearby, I knew I had to go. I wanted to get Nikki an autograph since Troy is her favorite. The plan was to go early so we would be sure to get in...just in case these guys were bigger than I thought. Let me tell you, they are bigger than I thought! We stood in a very long line in the smoldering Louisiana heat and humidity. We were patient and trying to have a good time. Unfortunately, I have to say that my group seemed to be the only excited bunch there. I think if you're not excited to be there, then what are you even doing there? I called Nikki while standing in line and tried to get people to yell at her, but no one would do it, except my crazy 26 year old daughter who just happened to be the best dressed chic on the premises.
With the amount of excitement we had, we should have been moved to the front of the line. We finally made to within about 20 feet of the front door of the store and this guy who worked there and seemed to be trying to look important came out and said the line was cut and there would be no more autographs past a certain point. Well, we were past that point. He had a look on his face that appeared to be fear as he added, "Unless Troy says otherwise." What? Was he implying that Troy was a diva? Could he not be bothered with so many sweaty, tired, die-hard fans? Men, women, and children who suffered in the heat to see him? No way! Everyone around could agree that Troy did not say this. He wouldn't. That came from someone that worked at the store. It had to. So we sucked up our disappointment and got out of the line to go on into the store. I knew I was at least going to get pictures and I did! I pushed my way through the crowd until I got to them. Well, there was yellow tape between us. It was close enough to get what I needed. Here's a sample...
I wish Troy was my dad! Wouldn't he be a cool dad?
Troy and Jacob were smiling and laughing and signing as fast as they could without being rude. I could hear them talking while I was taking pictures and they seemed like really cool guys. I started feeling very strange like I might pass out, from the heat I assume. I quickly snapped my pictures and got the hell out of there before I made a spectacle of myself. I saw a couple of friends on my way through who were on the right end of the line and found out later that they did get autographs. I was happy they survived. I heard one waited 4 hours.
I wish things had gone differently and I could have accomplished my goal of getting the autograph for Nikki. She was so excited and it would have made my day. Don't ya just love doing something for someone who genuinely appreciates it? I love to make someone that happy. Who knows, maybe I'll get another chance someday. In the meantime, I can at least send her the pictures. She's thrilled just knowing I tried and that still makes it all worth it.
My goal now is to plan a vacation and go south to meet all of the Swamp People. I want to hang out and have a beer and listen to them talk and I want to meet Elizabeth, Joe and Tommy. It's amazing how the accent changes from northeast Louisiana to southern Louisiana.
Here's to ALL of the Swamp People! You are making Louisiana proud!
Thank you, Margaret for an awesome guest blog and I appreciate all of your efforts. Be sure and go visit Margaret's blog to get a little bit of southern fried charm!
